See what this course covers

The Class 3A course allows individuals to drive tandem axle trucks with air brakes after obtaining their licence. A two week course is for the individual with minimal to no experience with large vehicles. Individuals will have more time to learn, understand and feel prepared to drive afterwards.

All class hours listed are approximations for this course. Students and instructors spend time in the areas that need the most training. JBA1 uses a ratio of two students per one unit (2:1) during practical instruction. This allows the students the opportunity to observe as well as operate the equipment.

One road exam is included in the tuition fee. If students need a second test, additional charges for the cost of the exam and use of the equipment will be applicable. Testing takes place on the last day of the course.

Frequently Asked Questions

We recommend completing it prior to starting. Only the SGI driver examination office is authorized to give the knowledge tests. This way, you don't lose any time from the course to go and complete your learner's licence.
The two week course takes about ten days. Road exams will take place on the Friday during the last week of training.
Classes run Monday to Friday from 8am until 5pm. We do not offer evening or weekend classes.
At this time we are not offering payment plans. There may be grants available both for employers and individuals. Please contact the office for information on current grants.
As with any schooling, there is always the chance you may not pass the course or the road exam with SGI. The effort and time you put into it will make a difference whether you fail or succeed.
The two week course is still a short time frame for training and time lost is hard to make up during the program. Students who miss time for personal reasons may be required to book more training if needed. If the situation is beyond our control (for example bad weather), we will make every effort to ensure no training time is lost.
Deposits are due three weeks prior to the course starting for Class 3A, not at the time of booking.
Refunds will be issued if you cancel before the three week confirmation period. Anything after the cancellation date remains on file for future use. Tuition fees are non-refundable once the course has started.
Through JBA1, a one week course is the shortest time frame for 3A training available.
Class 3A training is booked around the Class 1A schedule. Consecutive weeks may not be available and students would have breaks in between training times. One week courses are scheduled once a month.
